Gas Tapper User's Manual
DANGER
For outdoor use only. Gasoline is extremely flammable and vapors can explode. Do not use near any potential ignition source such as a warm or running engine, battery, electrical wiring or exhaust systems. Do not leave unit unattended while operating. An operator must be at the switch at all times to monitor flow and prevent overfilling, spilling or any other hazard. Discontinue use immediately if spilled fuel or leaks are present or any other malfunction is detected.
WARNING
Fully drain lines before stowing using gravity to draw the remaining fuel through the lines with the pump switched on and allow to air dry completely before storing. Only store completely drained, dried, closed and latched unit container in a well ventilated area. Tapping sound is normal & loudest drawing into dry lines. Shut unit off if fuel does not flow within 20 seconds. Reposition uptake line to submerge in fuel source. If gas fumes are ever detected, make certain unit is outdoors. Check that ventilation port in front of the GASTAPPER box is closed by twisting clockwise until it stops. Store in a well ventilated area away from furnaces, stoves, water heaters or other appliances that have a pilot light or other ignition sources as they can ignite gasoline vapors.
TERMS-OF-USE
USE OF GASTAPPER CONSTITUTES UNDERSTANDING OF THE PRINTED DIRECTIONS AND WARNINGS, ACCEPTANCE OF SERIOUS RISKS AND AGREEMENT TO THE COMPLETE TERMS-OF-USE CONTAINED HEREIN.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
Gastapper, Gentap, Inc., its representatives, agents, resellers and affiliates accept no responsibility for personal injuries or damage to personal property arising from the direct, indirect use, misuse, storage, or possession of GasTapper. INTENT AND DESIGN
GasTapper is intended to help move gasoline and other fuels without having to siphon or get a mouthful of gasoline in the process. It is a fuel transfer device that can move gas from one gas tank or container to another. It has the added capability of being able to transfer fuel out of most modern cars. This ability allows vehicle owners access to their own fresh fuel as needed around the home, while camping, filling recreational vehicles, small engines and emergencies. Storing gas in a garage poses dangerous fire and explosion risks. Stored gas also goes bad over just a few months where the old gas begins to deteriorate and can even damage the items it is stored in. Many gas powered devices have met an early grave or required major service as a result of gas becoming plasticized leaving blockages in the fuel system.
ABOUT THE PUMP
GasTapper uses a high quality US manufactured fuel pump designed for aviation and high performance automotive use. The benefits of this level of quality provide you with a pump that can dry siphon as well as lift fuel a minimum of 40 inches on the narrow suction side and then push another 40 inches on the output side. All models of the Facet Posi-Flo Pumps are compatible with gasoline, diesel, biodiesel, blended alcohol fuels and fuel additives. Proven on thousands of original equipment applications. No bearings, electrical contacts, or diaphragms to wear out or fatigue. These pumps are designed to last several times longer than many other electric pumps.
OPERATION
Align fuel source and destination so that hoses can reach comfortably with Gastapper resting on a flat and secure surface (ground is best). Position hoses so that the intake is submerged below the fuel line and that dispenser side is secure in the receiving side. The dispenser side is equipped with an inner flexible copper line so that it can be gently shaped in order to meet your needs. Once hoses are in position, check that the Gastapper switch is in the off position and then connect Gastapper to a 12v outlet. Be sure that the hoses did not shift while connecting the 12v cord. At this point you can switch on Gastapper. Note that Gastapper will make a notable tapping sound with dry lines and while drawing fuel in. Once fuel reaches the pump the sound will diminish substantially. It will continue to make an audible tapping sound as this is a normal function of the pump. If you do not see fuel flowing into the input line within 20 seconds, reposition the input line. Attend the switch while fuel flows until you’ve achieved the desired result.
MODERN AUTO ADAPTER LINE
The ¼ inch semi rigid line is designed to access most modern auto fuel tanks through the narrow safety valve. It is intentionally not connected to the ⅜ inch clear urethane input line so that you can twist or maneuver the line in through the fuel filler neck without twisting the entire line. Although many cars are rumored to have anti-siphon devices built in, the typical blocking method is actually a standard anti-rollover ball valve. The valve is typically designed like a large table tennis ball that rests in a sphere shaped cavity that is larger than itself. This allow fuel to flow around it in normal fill ups but is designed to block the fuel path should the vehicle flip over by plugging the fuel neck.
First, place the short white funnel into the car gas tank in order to open up the metal flap found in many modern cars. Now insert the ¼ inch line and maneuver the line down with a combination of a pushing and twisting motion to get around any resistance point that you encounter. For most cars, this will take no more than 30 seconds to accomplish. Proficiency improves with effort. You can blow into a dry line and listen for a gurgling sound to help identify when your line is submerged, but never suck on a fuel line or inhale fumes even from a dry fuel line.
Once the line is in place, connect it into the main thicker urethane line by inserting it into the urethane line about about an inch. Pull to check for a secure attachment. The urethane line is very grippy and will hold it air tight when inserted properly. Note that in particularly stubborn situations getting past the rollover valve you can use a guide tube of ⅜ to ½ inch that is first inserted insert it in the gas tank first to the resistance point and then insert the ¼ inch line using the first larger line to aid in guiding and twisting of the ¼ inch line until you’ve bypassed the obstacle (a tube within a tube with the outer tube serving as a sheath).
Gastapper can achieve up to 50 gallons per hour in level conditions while using the ⅜ inch line directly. The Gastapper is designed to pull fuel through the small 1/4 adapter line at a reasonable flow rate closer to 30 gallons per hour.
GASTAPPER STORAGE
Fully drain lines before stowing using gravity to draw the remaining fuel through the lines with the pump switched on and allow to air dry completely before storing. Only store completely drained, dried, closed and latched unit container in a well ventilated area. If stowing for a period longer than 3 months and after initial use, running kerosene through the pump is great method to prevent any varnish build up inside the pump which could void the warranty.
FEATURES
GasTapper utilizes urethane fuel lines which are compatible with most gasoline blends. We do not use vinyl lines which are typically sold in hardware stores and home improvement centers as these have much shorter life with gasoline and UV. GasTapper is equipped with a very durable box that features a sealing lip to help prevent gasoline fume penetration when properly closed. Gastapper is also equipped with a flexible nozzle that can be re-shaped according to your needs. The copper nozzle is inside the clear hose to protect against static transfer and spark.
LIMITED WARRANTY
GasTapper comes with a 12 month parts replacement warranty from the date of purchase. Most warranty claims can be handled over the phone and replacement parts shipped if necessary. For warranty information, returns or exchanges of equipment, contact support@gentap.com.
