FAQs

Will the 12v GasTapper™ work on my vehicle?
Please see our list of vehicles that we have tested here. Most vehicles are accessible, but vehicles do vary greatly. We have videos showing difficult-to-access vehicles like some passenger cars and pickup trucks, along with tips and tricks. Cars and trucks are much easier when you lubricate the provided access line and the provided guide tube. We have found some vehicles with screens in them. It is always quite random. Usually you get caught on a metal edge. With careful manipulation of the outer guide tube, this can be overcome. It is tricky, but achievable.
One suggestion before buying our product is to buy a ¼ inch refrigerator water supply line and try that in your vehicle. It typical takes about 6’ of line. If you can get that line into your vehicle and reach gas, the GasTapper™ will work for you.
Can I use it for my underground reservoir?
Yes, with the 12V Max as it has the highest lift capability at 24 feet. The 12V Standard model lifts about 6 feet. The Max is best in this situation.
How much can the 12v Standard lift vs. the 12v Max?
The 12V Standard lifts 6 feet and the 12V Max can lift 24 feet.
Is there a chance of the hose collapsing due to amount of lift and hose length?
Generally, no. We have heard of this happening when a customer was moving hot transmission fluid. The fluid warmed the hose on our 12V Max model until it became soft enough to collapse on itself, so it is possible. It reverses itself once the hose cools.
Can I use the 12v products for my boat or jet ski?
Yes, with the caveat that you first try to access your gas with a ¼” plastic water supply line typically used for refrigerator ice makers. Boats and watercraft often have very custom fuel routes so you may want to test first.
Do you have a comparison chart with all products listed?
Yes. We have added a chart to our Amazon 12V listings, and we will soon have them on the website.
When switching between different fuels, are there precautions I should take?
None other than your own concern about mixing fuels in your vehicle. Generally speaking, fuels will mix, and the residue is not enough to have any effect on your vehicle.
My 12v Standard pump is making a clicking noise, but no fuel flow. What does that mean?
The biggest reason this occurs is that the user is using an AC to DC converter. The 12V Standard has a circuit board inside and it requires a very clean conversion. You cannot use things like a 110V car battery charger to run the 12V Standard. It will sound like it is working but it will not pump. If you convert AC to DC, you need a high-quality converter such as the type that we sell on our website. Our converter also comes with a female receptacle reducing spark risk.
Another possibility is that you have not actually reached fuel on the input side. Test your input by putting it into a gas can where you can confirm you are in fuel.
what are the Recommended cleaning procedures for my 12v product?
It is always best to flush either model with kerosene or diesel. Both act as a preservative and prevent the harm that can be done by gasoline or racing fuel over time. Keep a can around and use it over and over again by pumping out and right back into the can.
What is the difference between the 5/16” and ¼” line on the 12v Max?
The ¼” line is for difficult access and tight situations. Use the larger 5/16” line when you can. It reduces the workload on the pump.
What is the life span of 12v pumps?
If you flush the system after use, the GasTapper’s™ life is not limited. It should work for many years to come.
How do I convert the 12v plug to 110v?
Use the converter we offer on our website for the 12V Standard. The 12V Standard has a circuit board inside to properly operate the diaphragm. A battery charger will not work as a converter and is also dangerous as it can be a source for sparks.
What is the rate of flow for the 12v Standard vs the 12v Max?
The 12V Standard is 30 gallons per hour while the 12V Max is 70 gallons per hour.
Can the car access line get stuck?
Yes. It can get stuck on sharp edges that are found in fuel systems where metal pipes are joined by rubber couplings. It can also get stuck on butterfly type backflow prevention valves. If the 1/4" line gets stuck, do not try to get it out by pulling hard. The tube will eventually stretch and then break off.
The first solution is to twist or rotate the tube slowly while gently pulling. This will create a threading like action that will allow the tube to ride the catching edge out like a screw. An alternative to this would be to use the larger 1/2" 4 foot guide tube to slide down over the 1/4" line down to the obstruction. Gently use the larger tube to push open the butterfly valve or release the smaller tube from the caught edge.
